The Midnight Sun Festival x Iceland

15 Tracks We Can’t Wait To Hear At Secret Solstice 2016

With just over a week to go until Secret Solstice 2016 kicks off, we’re starting to get seriously pumped for what’s coming when gates open on Thursday the 16th of June. To prepare all of us for what’s to come, we’ve chosen 15 songs we’re most excited to hear blasting across the Secret Solstice festival site during our third event in Reykjavík.

RADIOHEAD – Paranoid Android. Although it’s hard to pick a single one of Radiohead’s tracks, Paranoid Android was voted the band’s #1 track of all time by NME’s audience, and that’s good enough for us. But in the end, we know their entire show is going to be spectacular, so choosing just one song is kinda redundant!

M.O.P. – Ante Up. This has got to be one of the most recognisable hip hop tracks of all time. When this one blasts around the festival site this year, we know there won’t be a single person sitting still. And if they are, it likely means they’re catching up on some much-needed sleep over the midnight sun festival weekend.

DEFTONES – Minerva. From their 2003 self-titled album, that many hardcore Deftones fans consider one of their best. Minerva is one of the album’s many highlights, though it’s difficult to pick a single song that stands out above the others as they’re all incredible. Lovers of Deftones, prepare for an epic show.

OF MONSTERS AND MEN – Little Talks. The song that brought our Icelandic headline act into some serious global fame. Regardless of what part of the planet you hail from, we know you’ve heard this one on your favourite local radio station at some point. This is definitely sure to be one of the highlights of festival Sunday.

DIE ANTWOORD – I Fink U Freeky. This track encompasses everything that Die Antwoord is known for: stunningly-strange music video, incredible weirdness, and pumping rap-rave attitude. We think they’re freaky, but we like that a lot.

GOLDIE – Inner City Life. Inner City life is from Timeless, Goldie’s 1995 debut album, a groundbreaking release in the history of drum and bass music. Goldie will be playing Timeless in its entirety at Secret Solstice 2016, which we know is going to be something to remember.

FLATBUSH ZOMBIES – MRAZ. One of their most popular tracks from their second mixtape BetterOffDEAD. Flatbush Zombies’ first time in Iceland is going to be pretty special, especially with banger songs like this one.

GENERAL LEVY – Incredible. Some of you might remember this song from 1994 when it reached number 8 on the UK charts, and others will remember it from the movie Ali G in da House.

SKREAM ft SAM FRANK – Rollercoaster. A great disco tinged beat from one of Britain’s finest beat makers and DJs. Skream was with us last year, and is returning for the second time to play in our Hel arena, as well as one of the Horizon Party side events.

LADY LESHURR – Queen’s Speech Ep.4. She is best known for her Queen’s Speech series, Ep.4 went viral and made her one of the upcoming female leads of British rap today. A unique talent, and one that will shine in Iceland, even despite the midnight sun.

AMABADAMA – Hossa Hossa. The lead single from their 2014 debut album Heyrðu Mig Nú. As with many acts in Iceland, Amabadama share members with a few other acts playing our 2016 event, so chances are you’ll be seeing some of the band more than once at Secret Solstice.

GÍSLI PÁLMI – Hverfinu. Gísli started his career releasing individual tracks on YouTube, but Hverfinu is one of the lead tracks from his much celebrated first album, released in 2015. Gísli Pálmi may not yet be incredibly well known outside Iceland, but that’s about to change in a big way.

AGENT FRESCO – Dark Water. Icelandic rockers Agent Fresco are starting to get some serious attention from abroad, and will be opening for Deftones on festival Saturday. We can’t wait to hear this one blasting from our main stage!

HJALTALÍN – Crack In A Stone. The most popular single from their fourth album Enter 4.

ALVIA ISLANDIA – Sugar Complex. Alvia is one of Icelandic hip-hop’s leading ladies, and an incredible artist both on stage, or in the studio. Alvia is gracing our stages for the third time this year at Secret Solstice 2016.
