HAM were formed in 1988 and split up 6 years later. The band reformed in 2006 and released an album in 2011 and released their newest album “Söngvar um helvíti mannanna” this summer to much critical acclaim. They are legendary in Iceland and most local rock bands have been heavily influenced by HAM. The band has sometimes been linked with heavy metal but has always refused to categorize themselves as such. Their music is a heavy, molten, braingrinding guitaristic wall of noise with a strong icelandic tinge, like an armored glacier on wheels. The band is well known for powerful (and loud!) live performances. In Icelandic ”hamur“ denotes the outer layer or skin of creatures, particularly birds. There is an expression of being ”í ham“ or ”wearing someone else’s skin“ in a shamanistic manner.
