Hjálmar

Maybe it was the long Icelandic summer days that inspired a group of friends to combine their passion for the sounds of Jamaica with the sounds of their homeland to create a unique blend of warm, old school reggae, sung entirely in Icelandic. It’s clear that they’ve struck the right chord, since forming 2004, they’ve been one of the most popular bands in their homecountry.

With five studio albums under their belt, collaborations with Finnish Jimi Tenor, Erlend Oye from Kings of Convenience and Swedish rapper Timbuktu and numerous awards and nominations, Hjálmar’s journey has taken them from Keflavik, a small town near the international airport, to Kingston. Hugely respected, admired and loved in Iceland Hjalmar have until been one of Iceland’s best kept secrets.
