Deep in the heart of Manchester’s industrial city centre in an old factory mill you can almost smell the raw drive and passion as Mushy bulldozes his way through the music industry’s status quo with his raw and unique blend of house and industrial techno.
Daniel Moscrop aka Mushy is a Manchester born producer who is steeped in musical heritage. His father, Martin Moscrop of ACR fame (Factory Records/Hacienda/Mute Record/Soul Jazz) is somewhat of a legend in the city and is well know and well respected across the globe. But Mushy has a style of his own. His unique blend of techno demonstrates a deep understanding of groove, bass and synthesis and transfers a unique energy onto any dancefloor across the world. You can certainly hear the influence of the “Madchester” movement, but this is a sound of its own. And it stands tall.
Daniel started honing his skills at an early age dabbling in various styles, learning his craft and developing his early trademark “dark and industrial” sound that Mushy became synonymous with. This sound was like an audio representation of the city of Manchester itself for a long time, dark and moody. However this sound developed further when he hooked up with childhood friend and fellow producer/engineer David “Jay” Hindley (Virus Syndicate/Midication Recordings). Jay and Dan began working together at the well-known EY3 Music studios in Manchester and they soon realised they were onto something special. With Jays influence providing the “light” to compliment and enhance the already existing dark and gritty sound that Dan had created, the pair felt this represented Manchester even further as the City began to evolve and grow economically and socially. Together they have been locked away working with a wide range of vocalists and instrumentalists, experimenting with various sounds and techniques to creating a real fusion of musical styles into one epic concoction of house and techno madness. Each track is a journey through space and time often beginning as a dark and gritty unassuming roller and slowly building into an epic crescendo of musicality and euphoria. The listener is pushed and pulled like a rag doll through a tornado of bass and bleeps.
This unique sound quickly caught the attention of world renowned DJ/Producer Skream who went on to sign Mushy to his critically acclaimed “Of Unsound Mind” imprint with an EP due for release in April/May 2018. With early recognition and heavy support from some of dance music’s elite including Jackmaster, Boddika, Paleman, Loefah, Route 94 and Klose One to name a few it’s clear that Mushy is playing no games. Focused, determined and hardworking the future looks bright the Manchester techno dons.
