The Midnight Sun Festival x Iceland

Sick and tired of attending the same old music festivals? Are you looking for a music and travel experience like no other? Are you keen to spend your summer searching for elves, soaking in hot springs, scaling volcanos and floating on icebergs in never-ending midnight sun? Do you want one of the best festival line ups in the world?

Here at Secret Solstice we have decided to make your life easy for you and have devised a festival experience so unique, in a country so incredible, that you will literally be kicking yourself for not booking earlier. But if for some crazy reason you still need convincing, here is a list of why Iceland and Secret Solstice is the combination that will tick all your boxes..

1. The Midnight Sun

At Secret Solstice, we have timed our festival to make sure that the sun never sets on your party, literally. With 72 hours of never-ending midnight sun from festival start to finish, you can guarantee you’ll be worshipping the sun and whatever else interests you at any time you please.

2. The LINE UP

Like hip hop? Like electro? Like rock? Whatever your preference, we have you covered. Thrash around with the Foo Fighters, lose your mind at The Prodigy, get down and dirty with Pharoahe Monch – with so many acts to see and many more to be announced, Secret Solstice is your music oyster.

3. Party In A Glacier

Now what’s cooler than being cool? Ice cold!
Not content with just sight seeing the good old fashioned way? Then let us entertain you in the heart of a glacier!

4. Location, Location, Location

Chances are, someone you know in the last year has visited Reykjavik, or wants to visit Reykjavik or has spoken about visiting Reykjavik. That’s because Reykjavik is incredible. And we are extremely happy to have our festival site situated in the heart of the city, making logistics and sight seeing a total breeze.

5. Don’t Just Take Our Word For It!

Don’t just rely on our word, we have been called ‘the most unique festival in the world’ by several media sources including YourEDM, Relentless Beats, Rave Jungle and Festival Sherpa to name a few! I guess it must just be our incredible lineups, our insane gig venues, being surrounded by outstanding natural beauty, never-ending daylight and our commitment to being carbon neutral that makes us worthy recipients of such a title!

6. Sail Away Under The Midnight Sun

Hvalaskoun fr· H˙savÌk. Humpback whale in the midnight sun

Join us aboard a boat on the Atlantic as the clock strikes midnight to witness the midnight sun kiss the horizon and then continue its voyage into the sky. Oh, and did we mention world famous acts will be DJing for you as well?

7. It’s Bigger Than Hip Hop!

We are delivering Iceland’s biggest hip hop lineup to date with the likes of Rick Ross, Big Sean, Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, Young MA, Pharoahe Monch to name a few, not to mention homegrown talent like Gísli Pálmi, Emmsjé Gauti and Lord Pusswhip! Now that’s worth celebrating!

8. Party In Hel

In Norse mythology Hell (or Hel) is frozen, not a fiery pit of flames. If you want to escape the never-ending daylight for a while, this is the place to retreat. Check out some of the festival’s biggest names perform until the wee small hours here.

9. Check Out Iceland’s Incredible Music Talent

So you know Björk, Sigur Rós, Of Monsters and Men and Múm, you may have even heard some JFDR, or GusGus and you heard rumours that the hip hop scene is making waves. But did you know that our little island nation in the North Atlantic is literally overflowing with talent? There is so much talent in fact that most musicians here are not fulfilled being in only one successful band, they often are in multiple acts that often vary in genre! So go and check out a band that you don’t recognise, you won’t regret it.

10. The Midnight Sun At A Music Festival

72 hours of never-ending daylight. Get ready to pack your favourite shades, you’ll need them!

11. We Like To Help You Save Money!

Because Secret Solstice wants you to have the best time possible (and that means having enough extra krónur for all those late night hotdogs, let’s be honest) we have teamed up with Festicket and Gaman to provide excellent discount packages for booking your festival ticket, flights, accommodation and extras together. You’re welcome!

12. Get Close To The Action With Onsite Camping!

Eat, breath, sleep Secret Solstice with our on-site camping! Not only is it the cheapest accommodation option you’ll find in Reykjavik, it also means that you’re right in the thick of the festival action AND downtown!

13. We Are Viking Themed, But In A Cool Way…

erik the viking

Our festival is based on Norse mythology, but instead of focusing on the blood, the violence, the pillaging and the gore, we like to find our inspiration from more recent Viking characters like Keitel Blacksmith (Erik The Viking) and channel incredible festival hair and fur.

14. Stunning Scenery Only a Short Drive Away…

Don’t get us wrong, Reykjavik is beautiful, but if want you want to experience landscapes that look like another planet, simply jump in a car and drive in any direction for about 30 minutes or more. You won’t regret it.

15. Relax In One Of The Many Nearby Hot Pools

Blue Lagoon

Need to soak your aching muscles after jumping around to The Prodigy or moshing to Foo Fighters? Reykjavik and its surrounding areas literally have an abundance of both natural and constructed hot pools to soak those aches and pains away, so you’ll be match fit to do it all again!

16. Climb A Mountain Or Go For An Incredible Hike During Your Spare Time

Breathtaking nature is right on Reykjavik’s doorstep. Why not climb Mt Esja and view the city from above? Or if you have a car, make a day of it and visit Fjaðrárgljúfur, Landmannalaugar, and Thórsmörk for landscapes and views that will make you think you have travelled to a different planet/to the Game of Thrones set.

17. Nature, Nature, Nature!

Yeah, okay, we’ve touched on this one, BUT LOOK AT IT!

18. Eat Unique Delicacies

Those of you with a slightly more adventurous palate can try traditional fare such as puffin, whale, horse, fermented shark and a vast variety of boiled sheep parts. We can’t promise they all taste good, we just said you could try them…

19. Eat Hotdogs With Celebrities At Iceland’s Most Famous Hotdog Stand

Okay, a hotdog isn’t exactly michelin star cuisine, but once you have tried ‘one with everything’ you’ll think your taste buds have died and gone to heaven. Iceland’s most famous vendor is Bæjarin’s Beztu Pylsur down by the harbour and celebrities such as Bill Clinton, Metallica frontman James Hetfield, and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain have all savoured the flavour of these amazing dogs.

20. The Many, Many Cats of Reykjavik 101

Cat lover? Be sure to hang out with one of the many friendly cats that like to roam downtown like they own the place. Find them guarding shops, patrolling the streets, hanging out in actual stores. Not a cat lover? Well they are generally pretty good at reading social cues so you can probably get away with a stare off and leave it at that.

21. And Finally, You Can Create Memories Like These…

Not too shabby right? If you attend this year, you’re at least 100% more likely to appear in 2017’s aftermovie than if you didn’t attend the festival at all. FACT.

So what are you waiting for?! Book yourself in for a holiday and festival experience of a lifetime! Get yourself a festival pass, or check out our amazing discounted package deals with flights, or get your ticket and accommodation together. We can’t wait to see you at Secret Solstice 2017!
