Secret Solstice 2016: Every Juicy Detail So Far

It’s been just over six weeks since we started shouting news of our 2016 event to the world, though a lot has happened already in that time. With news of us hosting the world’s only party inside a glacier again, putting the world’s ultimate festival pass on sale, as well as revealing our initial lineup, there’s been a lot to keep up to speed on.

So, with a very deep breath, here goes…

THE MAIN EVENT

In case you didn’t already know, Secret Solstice 2016 will be held between the 17th-19th of June 2016, in the heart of Iceland’s capital city of Reykjavík. Not that we like to brag (actually, we do), though we’ve already been called one of the most unique events on Earth, and praised by the likes of TIME Magazine, The Guardian, BBC, and many more.

WHAT? THE SUN DOESN’T SET?

Might sound like lies, but we promise it isn’t. Due to Iceland’s close proximity to the arctic circle (and probably a little of Thor’s influence), the sun never fully sets during the solstice weekend, when Secret Solstice is held. This means you’ll be bathed in daylight for the entire duration of our 2016 event, and get a taste of the magic that Iceland’s first Viking settlers saw when they first arrived here around 1,000 years ago. Also, you get bragging rights to make your friends jealous of the unbelievable astro-witchcraft you experienced at our Icelandic summer music festival.

OUR FIRST LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT

Although we’ve only announced a small handful of names so far for our 2016 lineup, we’re extremely excited about who we’ve already named. Having become one of the world’s biggest bands over the last few years, Iceland’s incredible Of Monsters And Men are leading the charge, with DJ legend Kerri Chandler (who played our inaugural event in 2014) satisfying the needs of those who will be dancing the night away in the midnight sun. Rounding out the bill are Deetron, Lady Leshurr, Amabadama, Högni Egilsson, and many others, though be aware more acts will be added over the coming weeks. THE WORLD’S ONLY PARTY INSIDE A GLACIER

Ever dreamt about attending the world’s only party inside a glacier? Yeah, us too. Well, Secret Solstice festival is the only event in the known universe where you can make this dream a reality. In 2016, Secret Solstice presents Into The Glacier will host two parties during our festival weekend. Only 100 guests each show will be able to take in a DJ set by a world-famous DJ, or an acoustic show courtesy of a prominent Icelandic artist, on the 18th and 19th of June respectively. We don’t have to be modest when we say this is one of the most insanely incredible parties ever hosted, and is already on track to selling out over the coming weeks. ICELAND: SO HOT RIGHT NOW

All foreigners coming to our little volcanic island in the middle of the Atlantic say basically the same thing: there’s no place on Earth like Iceland. Only a 30 minute drive or bus ride out of Reykjavík, you’ll be able to add some of the most spectacular natural attractions to your Secret Solstice 2016 experience. Without making this list immense, this includes literally hundreds of waterfalls, glaciers, geothermal pools, alien moss, volcanoes, and spectacular scenery that looks like it’s been pulled straight from Lord Of The Rings or Star Wars.

If you’re coming to Iceland from abroad, and you’re not planning on strapping yourself to a dolphin, obviously you’ll have to fly here. As travel can get quite expensive closer to the event, we recommend you book now, especially if you’re coming from Europe or North America. Flights can be had right now from many airlines (including our partner WOW air) for peanuts, due to how far in advance we are. It’s smarter to book your travel as soon as you can, and your parents would be proud you’re making sound financial decisions.
