Secret Solstice 2015 Volunteer Crew Descriptions and Info

Welcome to the Secret Solstice Festival 2015 Volunteer Info Section. Here you can get basic info about what being a Volunteer entails and introduce yourself to the basics of the process. We look forward to your participation.

  • Registration is open from the 5th of March until the 5th of June but there is a good chance it will be closed sooner.
  • To be confirmed as a Volunteer you will have to have paid your Volunteer Deposit Ticket. The ticket is reimbursed after you have finished your allocated shifts. You have to send the confirmation from the ticketing agent to finalize your sign-up.   (For further information on the Volunteer Deposit Ticket click here.).
  • We will send you a purchase link for The Volunteer Deposit Ticket after sign-up. Please send a confirmation of your purchase to volunteers@secretsolstice.is.
  • Foreign applicants must provide us with a passport scan and confirmation of flight details to finalize their application.
  • You will receive your full work order and shifts 3 (unless in case of late sign-in) weeks before the festival.
  • Be advised that you will need to show up for your shift a half an hour in advance to get accredited.
  • You’ll get accredited every day when you show up for your shift and after you’ve finished your shift you will be accredited with a single-day wristband so you can enjoy your free time at the festival (same applies to camping if you require accommodation).
  • If you have finished your placement you’ll get a full festival wristband. This is done to ensure that volunteers finish their work placement.
  • If you require camping you have to notify us. (Only for applicants with residence outside Reykjavík.
  • Please join the Secret Solstice Volunteer Facebook group. There you have a direct link to management for whatever questions or further information you might need.
  • If for any reason you realize that you will not be able to attend the event as a volunteer, please notify us at volunteers@secretsolstice.is. We will provide you with a contact number so you can reach management 3 weeks before the festival.
  • Now that we’ve gotten the speech out of the way please introduce yourself to the roles available. Happy trails!

 

Box Office / Wristband Exchange / Accreditation Staff

The Box Office is where we sell and exchange tickets for festival Wristbands, check off guest-lists, check and hand out Press Credentials, and make sure all our Artists, Staff and workers get the right pass for their job. You are the first face that our audience will see. This volunteer Crew is extremely important and needs people that are friendly, honest, and can interact with people on a number of levels.

Shifts: 2 x 8 hour shifts required for a Weekend Pass. This will require at least one evening shift

Volunteer Tee-shirt: Worn at all times while on duty.

 

Stewarding (Campsite, Internal and External)

This very important volunteer crew makes sure that our audience know where they’re going, how to get there, monitor areas to make sure everything is safe, be able to answer questions from people and help where necessary. Volunteers for this crew must be friendly, helpful and be ready to adapt to any situation as it arises. You could be asked to help other crews if need be.

Shifts: 2 x 8 hour shifts required for a Weekend Pass. This will require at least one evening shift

Volunteer Tee-shirt: Worn at all times while on duty.

 

Artist Liaison

The volunteers for this crew will be helping our Secret Solstice Artist Liaison team – getting dressing rooms set up, helping artists get to their stages and any number of things that keep our performers happy. Not for the star-struck. This is a really busy crew and you’ll be working hard. Experience with Artist Liaison or Hospitality preferred.

Shifts: 2 x 8 hour shifts required for a Weekend Pass. This will require at least one evening shift

Volunteer Tee-shirt: Worn at all times while on duty.

 

Recycling/Waste Management Crew

This vital crew keeps our festival site clean and tidy. It’s that simple. This is actually more fun than you would think.

Site Art

This wonderful crew works on making Secret Solstice look the best and coolest festival site in the world. This is hard work, long hours and will require building and some heavy lifting. Completely rewarding and working with our amazing Creative Director. The great thing about this crew is that you get to enjoy the festival in it’s entirety!

Shifts: To Be Decided (Further information available soon)

Volunteer Tee-shirt: Worn at all times while on duty.

 

Production Runners

Volunteers on this crew are there to help our Festival Stuff with all kinds of various jobs throughout the festival. There’ll be lots to do and you’d never be bored. You’d be helping our Stage Managers and Artist Liaison as well.

Shifts: 2 x 8 hour shifts required for a Weekend Pass. This will require at least one evening shift

Volunteer Tee-shirt: Worn at all times while on duty.

 

Site Build Crew

This crew is all about hard work and long hours and takes place before and after the festival. You’d be doing all kinds of different jobs with the build and breakdown of the festival site. Physically demanding and will require heavy lifting. Not for the faint-hearted, but very rewarding. The great thing about this shift is that you can enjoy the festival in it’s entirety and if your willing to do the longer placement you have an extra ticket for a friend and if all your shifts are before the festival you don’t have to pay for the Volunteer Deposit Ticket!

Note: This position is preferably for residents of Iceland as the festival can not provide you with camping before the 18th of June or after the 22nd of June.

Shifts: 3 x 8 hour shifts before or after the festival for a Weekend Pass. 6 x 8 hour shifts before the festival for 2 Weekend Passes or a V.I.P-Pass

 

Stage Manager Assistants

Want to learn about Stage Production? Here’s a great chance to assist our Stage Managers. You’ll be working closely with the Stage Managers and Production Crew hooking up gear and changing setups in between acts. This is a great crew for people interested in learning more about Stage Management and the technical side of keeping an event running smoothly. To be considered for this role you have pre-existing knowledge on sound equipment and music tech.

Note: Previous experience and preferably a CV are needed for this position.

Shifts: 2 x 8 hour shifts required for a Weekend Pass. This will require at least one evening shift.

Volunteer Tee-shirt: Worn at all times while on duty.

 

Volunteer Crew Chiefs

Volunteers on this crew would be helping our Volunteer Management Team onsite at the festival. Checking in all other volunteers, making sure everyone is in the right place and that all the volunteers are happy and doing the best job possible. You’ll be assigned to a specific crew you manage. You would have to do some work before the festival because this is a very important position and closer to staff than the other volunteer placements. Y

Note: You will receive a letter of recommendation from Festival Management after successfully finishing your placement.

Shifts: You’ll have to do 2 shifts which could exceed 8 hours.

Management Support Staff

We are looking for 10 key candidates to work with the festival delivery team.

On year two we’re looking for a team of hardworking dedicated people to come in to support the festival delivery team. This is a work placement volunteer position that is suitable for somebody looking for work experience and to gain and learn valuable event delivery skill sets from an experienced event delivery team. This position is for hardworking individuals with good communication skills and administrative skills. The successful applicants will be placed with one of the key staff members that run the festival from event control. Candidates applying for these positions need to submit their CV’s or give valuable information that will help us assess if you are the right person for the job.

You will receive a Production Festival Wristband. At the end of your placement you will be assessed by your work placement manager and given a written reference that you will be able to accompany your CV as a valuable experience reference.
