Travel, Accom + More: Getting To Secret Solstice 2016
Coming to Secret Solstice 2016? Of course you are – you’ve already been convinced by our incredible lineup featuring Radiohead, the stunning beauty of Iceland’s nature and the midnight sun, as well as all the stuff that makes us one of the most unique festivals on the face of the Earth.
So now it’s time to book your travel and accom in Iceland, and we’re here to make it as easy as possible for you. So without any further ado, here’s everything you need to know about getting in and out of the country, who to book flights with, package deals, and every possible accommodation option in Reykjavík for the duration of the event.
WHERE TO FLY IN
Iceland’s Keflavík International airport (KEF) is where you’ll land when arriving to Iceland, about a 35 minute drive south of the nation’s capital city of Reykjavík. There are literally thousands of flights per year that come into the airport from many cities in Europe and North America, with dozens of different carriers. Although we recommend our airline partner WOW air, you can take a look at the myriad of different airline options on aggregation sites like Kayak, Skyscanner, Expedia, and many more.
FESTICKET PACKAGE DEALS
Booking your accommodation and festival pass together is a surefire way of saving some coins, and Festicket are our official partner for these packages for the 2016 festival year. With accommodation add-ons like on-site camping, as well as hotels and hostels within minutes for the event, there’s an option for every kind of budget with Festicket’s packages. Check them out here, though we recommend booking fast as many rooms are already close to selling out for the event weekend!
GAMAN TRAVEL PACKAGES
Want to book flights, accom, and your festival ticket together? Our partner Gaman Travel has you covered. With packages available from major cities in Europe, the United States, and Canada, there’s sure to be a WOW air flight to Iceland departing close to you that’ll get you to all the Secret Solstice action as quickly as possible. Check them out here.
FLYBUS TRANSFERS
As with the last few years, we’ve partnered up with Reykjavík Excursions to help get you to the event once you’re in the country. You can book their Flybus airport transfers here, and save yourself some money by doing this in advance. Their buses are comfortable, quick, and all have onboard wifi – though we’re not sure you’ll need to stay connected on the bus as we guarantee you’ll probably be staring out the windows at Iceland’s incredible scenery on the way from the airport.
CAMPING ON THE FESTIVAL SITE
Wanting to stay as close to the action as possible? Our on-site camping is your best option. Apart from being probably the cheapest way to rest your head over the event weekend, you’ll be within a two minute walk from the festival gates, meaning there will be no issues with how you’re going to make your way to the event each day. As long as you bring your own tent, camping is only 9,900kr (approx £53/$77/€69), meaning you won’t break the bank by sleeping under the midnight sun. Available via Festicket’s package deals, Gaman Travel, or booking on its own via our ticketing partner Tix.
HOTELS AND HOSTELS IN REYKJAVÍK
If camping isn’t for you, there are more beds within a short walk of the festival site than you can poke a stick at. As Secret Solstice 2016 will be held smack bang in the middle of Reykjavík, you’ll be within a five to fifteen minute walk of almost all major city hotels and hostels. Check out sites like Hotels.com, Hostelworld, and Booking for pricing of almost everything available, or add it in a package with Festicket or Gaman Travel.
GRABBING AN AIRBNB
Having a place that feels like home can be the best place to unwind after a big festival day, and that’s what renting a room or entire house/apartment on AirBnB can offer you in Reykjavík. With rooms starting at only €30 per night, all the way up to extravagant villas upwards of €1500, there’s an incredible selection of places on offer for every wallet size. We recommend booking as soon as you can though, as options will become very limited, very quickly.
FINDING THE BEST FLIGHTS
Apart from the package deals we’ve mentioned above, we recommend using sites like Skyscanner or Kayak to find the cheapest flights in and out of Iceland on your preferred dates. They can also help out with accommodation as well, so may be a great option for you if you wanna book everything at once (though you’ll still need to book your festival pass).
GOT YOUR TICKET?
If you book via Festicket or Gaman Travel, you’ll already have your festival pass included in the package. However, if you decide to book separately, you’ll need to book yourself a 3-day standard, VIP ticket, Óðinn Super-VIP ticket, or ultra-limited Package Of The Gods pass to Secret Solstice 2016, and all of those you can book here. You also might like to consider adding one of our epic side-events on as well, including the Midnight Sun Boat Party, or Secret Lagoon geothermal event.
Now that’s out of the way, you have no excuse not to be in Iceland between the 17th-19th of June 2016. See you in the midnight sun…
